Out-of-Stater Navigator: Sheehy’s Nightmare First On-Camera Interview with Montana Press

For the first time, Tim Sheehy gave an on-camera interview with a Montana media outlet and… it was a disaster. Sheehy was unable to give straight answers and attacked journalists for asking him basic questions that matter to Montanans.

His brutal interview was not a surprise given he’s out of touch with Montana values. As you will read below, Sheehy’s list of lies continues to grow, and his refusal to protect Montanans’ reproductive freedoms has not gone unnoticed.

SHEEHY’S SCANDALS & LIES ON FULL DISPLAY DURING BRUTAL NBC MONTANA INTERVIEW

After months of dodging the press, Sheehy’s first on-camera interview with a Montana media outlet was filled with tough questions about independent reporting on inconsistencies around his military service and a gunshot wound he received, his refusal to condemn a current staffer's support for neo-Nazi social media posts, and issues facing his taxpayer-funded business.

Instead of being straight with Montanans, Sheehy attacked the media and refused to take accountability for his actions.

MONTANA DEMOCRATIC PARTY RELEASES NEW VIDEO HIGHLIGHTING SHEEHY’S LIES DURING NBC MONTANA INTERVIEW

Sheehy’s brutal NBC Montana interview put the spotlight on his many lies and inconsistencies about who he is and what he believes. In a new video, using Sheehy’s own words, the Montana Democratic Party highlights Sheehy’s evasive answers in the first on-camera interview he gave to a Montana media outlet.

RACHEL MADDOW TORCHES TIM SHEEHY FOR HIS LIES

Rachel Maddow torched Tim Sheehy for his mounting inconsistencies and lies. Front and center were Sheehy’s false claims that he grew up in “rural” Minnesota and Sheehy’s multiple, differing accounts about a gunshot wound.

KEY MOMENTS:

  • “Since he has been running against Jon Tester, though, he's made a big deal of saying that he grew up near farmland. Turns out there was maybe farmland near the multimillion dollar lake house he grew up in in suburban St. Paul. That's pretty much just like being a farmer.”

  • “This follows another quite unusual controversy for this Montana Senate candidate in which he either dropped a loaded gun in a parking lot at Glacier National Park and the gun went off when it hit the ground and he shot himself in the arm, or he didn't really shoot himself in the arm by dropping a gun in the parking lot at Glacier National park, but he nevertheless went to the hospital anyway.”

SHADY SHEEHY’S LIES STACK UP

Sheehy’s repeated lies and inconsistencies are on full display for Montanans as they start to learn more about the multimillionaire transplant running for U.S. Senate:

  • Sheehy repeatedly claimed on the campaign trail that he grew up in “rural Minnesota”– when he actually grew up in a multimillion-dollar lake house in Shoreview, 15 minutes from Minneapolis and near his elite private school in St. Paul.

  • Sheehy also claimed to be a rancher, despite not running the day-to-day operations of the ranch land he bought in 2020. Sheehy uses his vanity ranch for brand promotions and influencer photo shoots.

  • Sheehy has given multiple accounts about a gunshot wound that records say were a result of him shooting himself in the arm in a parking lot in Glacier National Park in 2015, which Sheehy now claims is a lie. Sheehy has still refused to release his medical records from that day.

  • Sheehy said he “bootstrapped” his company “from scratch,” while conveniently omitting the hundreds of thousands of dollars he raked in from his family members to start his business. Now, filings show that his business is “deeply in debt, hemorrhaging cash and at risk of failing to meet its financial obligations.”

  • Sheehy is trying to hide his call to transfer public lands. After explicitly calling for public lands to “get turned over to state agencies, or even counties,” Sheehy is now falsely claiming on his website that “Tim opposes a federal transfer of our public lands” in an effort to cover up his unpopular stance.

REMINDER THAT SHEEHY SUPPORTS NATIONAL ABORTION BAN

This week marks the two-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision leak, and Sheehy remains committed to attacking Montanans’ reproductive rights.

  • Sheehy is endorsed by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (SBA), which has a national abortion ban “litmus test” for any candidates they endorse – Sheehy supports a national abortion ban. Sheehy is the only Republican Senate candidate in a competitive race to receive an endorsement from SBA this cycle. SBA pledged to ship 50 staffers into Montana to campaign for Sheehy and push their anti-choice agenda.

  • Sheehy called abortion “murder,” leaving no doubts about his extreme views.

  • Sheehy refused to back federal IVF treatment protections, putting vital health care treatments for Montana families in jeopardy.

  • Sheehy refused to say whether he would vote to reinstate the Roe v. Wade decision, which Dobbs overturned. He ignored the question three times.
