Breaking: MT Dem’s Statement on Planned Insurrection Rally

GOP failure to condemn the attempted coup has led to celebration of treason

Helena, MT – One year exactly after the deadly January 6th insurrection attempt on the US Capitol, right-wing extremists are planning a rally to celebrate the attempted coup. Gov. Greg Gianforte, Sen. Steve Daines, Rep. Matt Rosendale, and Attorney General Austin Knudsen, Montana’s top law enforcement officer, have remained dangerously silent.

Jan. 6th 2021 was a dark day in America’s history. Sen. Steve Daines and Rep. Matt Rosendale not only flamed the insurrection attempt by voting to throw out election results, but failed to sufficiently condemn the violence and investigate and hold perpetrators accountable. Gianforte even went so far as to refuse a presidential request to lower the United States flags in honor of the police officers who died defending the US Capitol on January 6th.

Now, Gianforte is welcoming traitors and insurrectionists into the Montana State Capitol to spread their lies about non-existent voter fraud and celebrate the actions carried out by convicted insurrectionists on January 6th.

“We should be honoring our brave law enforcement officers who held the line on Jan. 6th, not glorifying domestic terrorists,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “The fact this event has been met with silence from Montana’s Republican leaders is deeply troubling proof that they are willing to further erode our democracy and the rights and freedoms of Montanans.”
