Trump and Montana’s All-Republican Congressional Delegation Shut Down the Government

Helena, MT - Last night, despite Republican control of the White House and both chambers of Congress, federal government funding lapsed after Donald Trump and Montana Republicans refused to get serious about avoiding a shutdown and stopping Montanans’ health insurance costs from skyrocketing.
Meanwhile, Democrats were in Washington, D.C., ready to negotiate and ensure healthcare premiums don’t double for 77,221 Montanans and nearly 40,000 don’t lose their health insurance entirely.
In response to Donald Trump and Montana Republicans forcing a government shutdown, the Montana Democratic Party Interim Executive Director, Justin Ailport, released the following statement:
“Donald Trump, Senator Daines, Senator Sheehy, Congressman Zinke, and Congressman Downing refused to negotiate and ensure that healthcare expenses don’t double for Montana families, who are already struggling under Donald Trump’s economy. While Republicans refuse to even show up to work, Democrats stand united: cancel the cuts, lower costs, and save health care for Americans. Meanwhile, Montana’s all-Republican congressional delegation doesn’t give a damn about their constituents and only cares about appeasing their king.”
