Helena, MT – What happened yesterday in Minneapolis should never happen on an American street.
Renee Nicole Good was tragically shot and killed in broad daylight by an ICE agent while in her vehicle. On circulating video, Good can be seen waving officers’ vehicles around hers before agents aggressively rush the car for no apparent reason. Agents were at the side of the vehicle and without cause, attempted to open the door. When Good began to drive away, she was immediately shot three times – she died at the scene.
This was not a self-defense shooting. It was a reckless, lethal action that murdered an American citizen, created a widow, and left her three young children alone and without a mother.
The Trump administration’s attempt to sanitize and justify this killing is abhorrent and a betrayal of every single American citizen. ICE has become a federal agency with virtually unlimited power – their unchecked aggression and lack of accountability have made our streets more dangerous.
Masked men with guns have now murdered an American citizen and while the president slanders her name, our Republican delegation says nothing. Will Daines, Zinke, Downing, and Sheehy allow Montanans to get gunned down in the street next?
As Americans, we can not let this violent act stand. ICE agents should not be vigilantes that Republicans believe are above the law. We demand a full, transparent investigation and the agent responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
