Steve Daines Betrays Sick Veterans Because Sen. Pat Toomey Told Him To

Helena, MT – Late Wednesday night, Senator Steve Daines reversed his vote on Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022, a bill that would deliver all eras of toxic-exposed veterans their earned health care and benefits. Senator Daines had previously supported and voted for the bill, saying just last month, “Montana veterans served our nation with honor and it is our duty to ensure they have the care and services they need when they return… I look forward to seeing this bipartisan bill signed into law.”

One month later, Senator Daines reverses course, abandoning his promise to Montana veterans, and blocks the bill from passing out of the Senate.

Daines’ statement on his change of mind makes it clear he is playing political games with the health of Montana veterans. He’s holding Montana veterans’ health care hostage because he is upset that the Democrats moved forward on their Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

“Senator Daines kowtowed to party pressure and abandoned his duty to Montana veterans. It’s petty, stupid, and just plain wrong,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Who is Senator Daines actually representing in Congress? Montanans? Or the whims of Mitch McConnell and scummy party politics?”
