Bill Draft Requests for the 2023 Session Lay Out Extreme MTGOP Anti-LGTBQ+ Agenda

Helena, MT – With under two weeks to the start of the 2023 Session, the sheer volume of extremist, bigoted bill drafts the Republican legislators have requested clearly reveals one of the MTGOP’s biggest 2023 session priorities: a slate of bigoted hate.

As of this week there are several bills that seek to alter Montanans’ right to privacy, the Constitutional right that protects Montanans from Governmental overreach into their private lives, including a bill draft from Keith Regier (R) to “define the right to privacy.”

There have been more than half a dozen hateful, anti-LGTBQ+ bills:

  • “Prohibit transgender surgery on minors” - Keith Regier (R)

  • “Prohibit minors from attending drag shows” - Braxton Mitchell (R)

  • “Constitutional amendment defining gender” - Caleb Hinkle (R)

  • “Codify definitions of male and female” - Caleb Hinkle (R)

  • “Generally revise birth certificate laws” - Brad Molnar (R)

  • “Revise laws related to birth certificates” - Lola Sheldon-Galloway (R)

  • “Provide for a youth health protection act” - John Fuller (R)

“The Republicans have made it crystal clear that their central priority is not drafting substantive policy solutions for Montana, but instead, drafting an extremist slate of hateful bills,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “These are not Montana values, and make no mistake, Montanans from every corner of the state are gearing up to fight back.”
