Montanans Are Waiting to See if MTGOP Will Defend the U.S. Constitution

Helena, MT – Over the weekend, the twice-impeached Former Republican President, and the 2024 favorite for nominee, Donald Trump called for the “termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution” so he could be reinstated as president. Representative Matt Rosendale and Representative-elect Ryan Zinke have remained silent on the former president’s statement.

The U.S. Constitution has been the bulwark for U.S. democracy since our nation’s founding. It has never seen such a challenge from a former President and his allies in its history. Now, more than ever, American democracy needs a robust defense of the Constitution.

“Will the Montana Republicans come out against a candidate who is urging us to suspend the U.S. Constitution? It shouldn’t be hard,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “You cannot call yourself a patriot if you don’t have the backbone to defend our nation’s Constitution, or at the very least, decry attempts to dismantle it.”
