Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Sen. Tester and the Democrats Help Save the Postal Service – No Thanks to Matt Rosendale

The Postal Service Reform Act, signed today, will ensure long-term, reliable mail service in rural Montana

Helena, MT – Today, President Biden signed the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022 into law. This bill is the most significant overhaul of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) in almost 20 years and will help shore up the agency to address delays in mail delivery across Montana that came to light during the pandemic. The new law, which was championed by Senator Tester in Congress, stands in stark contrast to Trump-era efforts to cut USPS delivery, and Rep. Matt Rosendale who voted against saving our postal service.

Here’s just some of what this new law means for people in Montana is:

  • protecting reliable delivery of everything from medication for seniors to household items for Montana families;

  • requiring the Postal Service to maintain its standard of delivering at least six days a week;

  • new transparency standards to hold USPS accountable for delays;

  • opportunities for local, state and native governments to offer certain non-mail services, like hunting and fishing licenses;

  • support for rural newspapers that may qualify for reduced mailing fees;

  • better integrating Medicare among USPS employees, saving the Postal Service approximately $22.7 billion over 10 years

 “Montanans rely on our postal system every day to do everything from getting prescription medications, paychecks, and Social Security, to voting and keeping in touch with friends and family; not to mention, all the small businesses across Montana who depend on the postal service to get their goods to customers,” said Sheila Hogan, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director. “The Democrats and Senator Tester have made sure that Montanans can continue to rely on the USPS and see expanded services–no thanks to Rep. Matt Rosendale.”
