Montana Democratic Party’s Statement on Resolving the Government Shutdown

Helena, MT - Over the last seven weeks, Democrats across the country have defended the working class from Republican leadership hellbent on raising healthcare prices. Tens of thousands of Montanans will see their premiums rise due to Republicans’ inability to step up when it mattered most.
Donald Trump and Montana’s all-Republican delegation have betrayed the people of Montana every chance they get. This was their plan – and when thousands of Montana families suffer, it will be their cross to bear. They continue to drag their feet to help working families, but rushed to vote in a $1.3 trillion tax break for billionaires.
While we are grateful to Senate Democrats for restoring jobs and backpay for Montana workers, the Montana Democratic Party is deeply frustrated and disappointed that Congress has yet to reach a tangible solution for extending Affordable Care Act subsidies. As noted in the Montana Democrats platform, healthcare is a human right – full stop – and that fight still continues today.
We stand with Democrats in Congress continuing to hold the line for affordable healthcare. We will not allow a full-scale Republican assault on Montanans’ healthcare. Montana Democrats will not forget when Republicans abandoned hungry families in favor of building a ballroom.
We look forward to the ‘yes’ vote of Senator Daines, Senator Sheehy, Congressman Zinke, and Congressman Downing to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for Montanans in December.
