Helena, MT – Today, the Montana Democratic Party released the following statement, in celebration and recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day:

"Today, on Indigenous Peoples' Day, Montana Democrats honor the culture and contributions of Montana's first people and Montana's Tribal Nations. Celebrating the original inhabitants of the Americas does not erase the atrocities that have occurred over the past 430 years, but it gives us the opportunity to recommit to our efforts to make this state better for all. At this year's platform convention, the Montana Democratic Party added explicit language to reaffirm our support of the vigorous pursuit of justice in cases of crimes against American Indians in Montana. We believe in the equality of all people, and as Montanans, we have a particular obligation to Montana’s first people.”
