Helena, MT – Last night, a roomful of Cascade County residents gathered in the Great Falls Public Library for an open discussion with Senate Minority Leader Pat Flowers (D - Belgrade) and House Appropriations Vice Chair Mary Caferro (D - Helena).

The Great Falls town hall was the first stop on the Legislative Listening Tour the Montana Democratic Party is organizing across the state, to provide Legislators  the opportunity to hear from people they represent, to answer questions and to talk about what matters to the people of Cascade County.

Audience members brought up concerns about fair taxes, funding public education, and accessible and affordable health care. Community members spoke about how difficult it is to find workforce housing that Montanans can afford and the importance of rebuilding Democratic organizing power in Cascade County. Many expressed gratitude to the Democrats in the legislature for fighting for tens of millions of dollars in infrastructure spending in Cascade County,  increasing provider rates so community health care facilities could afford to stay open, and investing in child care for working families.

“Montana Democrats are fighting for fairness, for freedom, and for working families. Listening tours like this allow us to hear directly from everyday folks and develop strategies to meet their needs,” said Senator Pat Flowers and Rep. Mary Caferro, in a joint statement after the event.

The Great Falls meeting was the first stop on the Legislative Listening Tour – future stops will be planned around the state. Next up: Havre and Fort Peck.
