Helena, MT – Senator Daines is touting his support for cancelling $9 billion in foreign aid and public broadcasting funding this week, claiming Republicans are reining in spending. This comes after Daines voted for Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill Act, adding a jaw-dropping $3.3 trillion to the national deficit.
Daines, a self-proclaimed deficit hawk, took to X to celebrate the passage of the rescissions bill, claiming it’s a step toward tackling the nation’s $37 trillion deficit.
“Senator Steve Daines must either be terrible at math or thinks Montanans don’t know any better,” said Interim Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, Justin Ailport. “Of the $3.3 trillion in new debt he just approved, he’s now bragging about the clawback of a mere .27%-- barely a drop in the bucket.”
“This is a load of horse manure,” Ailport added. “But we’ve come to expect nothing less from Steve Daines: the master of talking out of both sides of his mouth.”
