Helena, MT– Senator Steve Daines and Senator Tim Sheehy voted today against a motion that would have removed parts of Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” that could increase the risk of rural hospitals closing or cutting essential services.

Daines and Sheehy voted with their Republican colleagues 49-51 against protecting funding for rural hospitals, devastating seniors, disabled Americans, and working families across the country.

Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey introduced the motion today and released a list of more than 300 hospitals that risk closure or a reduction in services due to the cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act. Markey’s list included the following rural clinics and hospitals in Montana:

Northeast Montana Healthcare-Poplar

Prairie Community Hospital

Garfield Co. Health Center

Logan Health Cutbank

Big Horn Hospital

Northeast Montana Health Services

Providence St Joseph Medical Center

Big Sky Medical Center

“Plain and simple: Daines and Sheehy care more about giving their billionaire buddies tax breaks than supporting the rural healthcare system in Montana,” said Interim Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, Justin Ailport. “If this bill passes, it will impact all Montanans while disproportionately hurting indigenous and rural populations as more hospitals, clinics, and assisted living facilities will close, throwing hundreds, if not thousands of nurses and doctors out of work, and jeopardizing the lives and health of Montanans.”
