Rehberg Calls Health Care for Thousands of Montanans a “Vacation Home”

“An expensive vacation home.”

That’s what millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg called health care for thousands of Montanans.

Congressman Rehberg is asking the bipartisan committee tasked with cutting debt and spending to prevent Medicaid from serving many low-income Montanans access health care.  According to the Kaiser family foundation, the measure Congressman Rehberg wants to end will provide 57,356 Montanans with health care [Kaiser Family Foundation, 5/10, p. 43].

Where’s Your Republican Tea Party Candidate?

Montana Republican Party Chairman William Deschamps will be the guest of honor this week on the Tea Party television show “The Patriot Chronicles.”

Deschamps’ appearance follows that of Denny Rehberg and a long list of Republican legislators and candidates. GOP governor hopefuls including Roy Brown, Corey Stapleton and Ken Miller have or are also scheduled to appear on the show this month.

Past guests have included disgraced Big Sky Tea Party president Tim Ravndal, Columbus Tea Party organizer Blane Dillon, and Bliess Tew of the John Birch Society.

“It’s becoming clear that the Republican Party and the Tea Party are one in the same,” said Martin Kidston, spokesman for the Montana Democratic Party. “Montana’s ‘Grand Old Party’ has shifted toward the tinfoil-hat wearing crowd of conspirators and anti-government zealots representing the fringes of the right.”

The merging of the Montana GOP and the Tea Party got a boost earlier this year when Rehberg joined the Tea Party Caucus in Washington. He bought into the Republican Tea Party Contract on America and served as a giddy guest on The Patriot Chronicles in April.

Rick Hill Rejects Mainstream Montanans (and Conrad Burns) to Side with Special Interests

Last week Republican Gubernatorial candidate Rick Hill said, “People keep asking, ‘How are we going to protect the [Rocky Mountain] Front?’ The real question should be, ‘How are we going to protect the front from Max Baucus?’” [Fairfield Sun Times, 9/2/11]

Mainstream Montana ranchers, anglers, sportsmen, and small business owners overwhelmingly support stronger protections for Rocky Mountain Front:

"It all boils down to the fact that everybody has to see a chunk of money out of the Front. They just can’t stand seeing it sit there. Not every ounce of land should be producing a dollar. Some of it should be left alone, as it always has been." – Karl Rappold, rancher on the Rocky Mountain Front [High Country News, 6/21/04].

Labor Day Countdown: Rehberg Defends Tax Giveaways for Super-Rich, Big Oil

The following is a part of a series of Congressman Rehberg’s worst quotes  and votes against the middle class, leading up to Labor Day.

Millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg has consistently opposed ending loopholes for Big Oil and his fellow millionaires.  He’s even held on to these irresponsible giveaways when ending them could have meant shoring up Medicare and Social Security.

And when Congressman Rehberg gives away another tax cut to his fellow millionaires, he’s helping out his own bottom line, too.

Here are just a few examples of Congressman Rehberg’s support for the most powerful Americans at the expense of Medicare and Social Security for Montana families:

Rehberg votes against Hardin, Columbus ahead of visit to both communities

Rehberg won’t tell whole story about his votes against Montana communities on campaign stops today

Helena, MT -- Montana’s millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg is touring Columbus and Hardin today, but don’t expect him to mention his recent vote to hold up Social Security checks in both communities.

"Congressman Rehberg is back from Washington where he just voted to kill Medicare and Social Security, protect tax loopholes for fellow millionaires, and default on our economy," said Ted Dick, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party.  "Montana seniors and veterans aren't going to forget what Congressman Rehberg is doing to us in Washington DC, no matter what he tries to tell us on his cover-up tour."

On August 1st, Congressman Rehberg voted against a bi-partisan package that prevented a default on America’s debt, a decision that would have gravely impacted the people of Hardin and Columbus:

Rehberg Lawsuit Could be "Eye Opener" for Rural Fire Departments

Several firefighters in the greater Helena area shared their concerns Tuesday in an interview with KXLH regarding the ramifications Denny Rehberg’s lawsuit against Billings firefighters may have on fire departments across Montana.

Montana firefighters are watching the suit closely. Two Helena-area fire chiefs told KXLH that Rehberg’s lawsuit, if successful, could hurt fire departments like theirs and distract volunteers from their mission.

“It’s demoralizing and it just takes a tremendous amount of time,” Bob Drake, fire chief for the Tri-Lakes Volunteer Fire Department in Helena, told KXLH.

Bill Wegner, fire chief at the East Valley Fire Department, told KXLH that a lawsuit like Rehberg’s would not only have a financial impact on firefighters, it could make it hard to recruit volunteers.

If Billings firefighters lose the case, Wegner added, it will serve as an “eye opener” for rural departments, which are often the first responders to Montana wildfires burning in urban areas.

SAVE THE DATE: How Will Congressman Rehberg Spend the Montana Oil Spill Anniversary?

Montana's millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg spent the one year anniversary of the BP oil spill collecting checks from BP executives earlier this year.

So how will Congressman Rehberg spend the one year anniversary of the Exxon oil spill in the Yellowstone River?

Here's one guess:

What: A Fundraiser with Exxon oil executives
When: July 1, 2012 - one year from the Exxon spill in the Yellowstone River
Where: Five star hotel in Houston, Denver, Salt Lake City...probably not Billings
Why: Because Congressman Rehberg is in Big Oil's pockets and out of touch with Montana.

You can be sure to save the date now, because Congressman Rehberg will likely keep taking Big Oil's money and letting them off the hook, no matter how much they hurt Montana
