Montana’s Millionaire Congresman Dennis Rehberg today voted against emergency disaster assistance as communities across Montana deal with disastrous flooding.
During a committee hearing today, Rehberg voted against a measure to restore resources for FEMA and for local firefighters. Rehberg, who has been suing Billings firefighters for nearly a year, gutted funding for FEMA and firefighters earlier this year.
“Montanans expect their representatives to fight for us in Congress--not against us--as we deal with historic disasters across our state,” said Ted Dick, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Dennis Rehberg's vote today is just the latest in his long line of attacks on Montana's emergency responders. It’s time for Congressman Rehberg to stop following the orders of his party bosses and start making responsible decisions for Montana."
As Congress searches for responsible ways to tackle record deficits, it might be useful to take a look at whether Big Oil can afford to pay their fair share toward solving our debt challenges:
Montana’s Millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg was at it again at the Montana Republican Convention on Satuday – falling back on the same tired old talking points and offering no solutions.
But Congressman Rehberg took his hypocrisy to the next level when he said,
“The bottom line is if you want your mother to take care of you, that's maternalism. If you want your father to take care of you, that's paternalism. If you want the government to take care of you, that's socialism. But if you want to take care of yourself, that's Americanism.”
While the ‘Grand Old Party’ struggles with latest crisis, Montanans want to know if GOP will double down on extremist rhetoric
Helena, MT -- With the Montana Republican Party convention underway, Montanans are wondering if the GOP will stay the course of using inflammatory rhetoric for political gain, or if they will double down and cast their lot with most extreme members of the their party.
"The Montana Republican Party is in a state of crisis,” said Chris Saeger, spokesman for the Montana Democratic Party. “Some want to keep following the divisive, extremist path Congressman Rehberg chose for Republican legislators, while others want to take their party completely outside the mainstream. Unfortunately, there’s no good outcome in this debate for Montanans.”
Millionaire Congressman indicates he'll keep trying to roll back safety standards
Helena, MT -- House lawmakers from both parties rejected an earmark by millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg that would have stripped common sense safety measures to keep kids from smoking, and to ensure the safety of candy, food and even the blood supply.
You might have heard that Montana’s millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg was pushing an irresponsible earmark to strip protections for the safety of candy, the blood supply, and more.
But this isn’t the first attack on Montana’s health Congressman Rehberg has launched this year – he’s already tried to take Medicare away from thousands of Montana seniors.
Now, Montanans are holding Congressman Rehberg accountable for his votes against a healthy Montana. In case you missed it, here’s a great commentary from a writer to the Missoulian:
Baucus, Tester support new medical services for victims, but Rehberg's plan would take them away
Helena, MT -- Today, as Senator Max Baucus announced that victims of the vermiculite mine disaster in Libby will begin getting additional asbestos-related health services under the Affordable Care Act, Montanans were reminded that their lone Congressman, Millionaire Dennis Rehberg, would strip asbestos victims of the same screening and care.
Ted Dick, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, released the following statement about Congressman Rehberg's plan to end essential screening and treatment for victims of the Libby vermiculite mine disaster:
“Only one member of Montana’s Congressional delegation has tried to strip Libby asbestos victims of health care this year, and that’s Congressman Rehberg. In his irresponsible push to score cheap political points, Congressman Rehberg puts treatment for Libby asbestos victims at risk.
With Montana facing record flooding, state and local officials are preparing for the possibility of more extensive assistance from FEMA. On June 1st, Governor Schweitzer requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration, which could clear the way for FEMA assistance in the state.
Here’s a quick update on where each member of Montana’s Congressional delegation stands on securing FEMA assistance to help deal with floods in Montana:
Jon Tester – Held a hearing yesterday where he asked FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate, “Does the recently passed House Homeland Security appropriations bill even come close to providing what you need? In my understanding, it’s at least a billion dollars short.”
Fugate conceded that FEMA may have to ask for more funding.
Helena, MT -- Congressman Rehberg's plan to roll back safety standards for candy, the blood supply, and children's health is drawing heavy criticism from public health advocates.
Montana Democratic Party Executive Director Ted Dick today released the following statement on Congressman Rehberg's irresponsible attempt to gut safety standards:
"Congressman Rehberg has reached a new level of irresponsibility. Congressman Rehberg is recklessly endangering our children's health because he's failed to study the issues. It's too bad Congressman Rehberg would once again rather than play political games than protect the people of Montana, but that's what we've come to expect from Montana's millionaire Congressman."
Millionaire congresman follows lead of party bosses in approving controversial 'Ryan budget'
Helena, MT -- Montana’s millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg gave his endorsement to the plan to end Medicare as we know when he deemed passage of the controversial bill today.
Ted Dick, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party released the following statement in response to Congressman Rehberg’s vote:
“Congressman Rehberg is completely out of touch with the reality Montana seniors face. It’s time for Congressman Rehberg and his extremist allies in Congress to stop playing irresponsible DC games with Montana’s future.”
