The Montana Democratic Party put out the following statement after the Montana ACLU filed a lawsuit contesting Section 7, Article 13 of Montana’s Constitution, which defines marriage between one man and one woman:
“Today is a step toward the freedom to marry for all Montanans and creating a more equal and just Montana. Discrimination has no place in our state. Every Montanan deserves the right to marry the one they love. All loving, committed couples deserve to have their families recognized and protected in Montana. The Montana Democratic Party has called for the repeal of Montana’s ban on same-sex marriage. We commend the leadership and bravery of the plaintiffs, and we stand with you in the fight for freedom and equality for every Montanan,” said Andrea Marcoccio, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party.
