Rehberg Votes to Raise Taxes on All Montanans

MDP Chairman Encourages Rehberg to Put His Money Where His Vote Is

Helena, Mont.-- Montana Democratic Party Chairman Jim Elliott released the following statement after Congressman Dennis Rehberg's vote against the tax cut compromise that sailed through Congress with bipartisan support:.

"Yesterday Dennis Rehberg voted for raising taxes and against jobs for Montana. We look forward to hearing him explain his vote to hard-working Montanans who count on these tax cuts. If Congressman Rehberg wants to pay his taxes at the higher rate he voted for, he should. He is, after all the 14th richest member of congress and can afford it. But most Montanans can't. In addition, Congressman Rehberg also voted against the largest business incentive in history--a 100-percent write-off of capital investment. He voted against helping Montana businesses expand and create quality jobs in the state"

Montana Senators Max Baucus and Jon tester joined 79 other senators in voting for the bipartisan tax cut bill in the Senate earlier this week.

The bill, which Congressman Rehberg voted against, ensures that all taxpayers in Montana will see their lower rates extended through 2012. This will put more money in the hands of working Montanans who need it most.

By voting against the bill, Congressman Rehberg also voted against the extension and expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit and the American Opportunity Tax Credit. These extensions provide assistance to both students and working Montanans.
