Pulitzer-prize winning fact-checker confirms Rehberg’s vote to pay himself during shutdown

Millionaire congressman voted against plan to prevent shutdown pay, then claimed he didn’t

Helena, MT -- Millionaire congressman Dennis Rehberg is sounding like a DC politician as he scrambles to spin his vote against a measure that would have prevented him from getting a paycheck if he shuts down the federal government.

The non-partisan, Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-check website Politifact is confirming Rehberg’s vote to keep giving himself paychecks during a shutdown.  Read it here: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/apr/06/barbara-boxer/congress-cant-agree-cutting-its-own-pay-event-gove/

Senator Jon Tester led the charge in the Senate to prevent pay for members of Congress during a Republican government shutdown.  The legislation unanimously passed the Senate.

But when Rehberg and the House of Representatives took up the measure last Friday, Rehberg voted against it (see the vote for yourself HERE).  Despite Rehberg’s attempt to spin the truth, his vote against the measure was a vote allowing members of Congress to keep getting paid during a shutdown.

“All the spin and double-speak in the world won’t undo Congressman Rehberg’s clear decision to make sure he keeps getting paid if he shuts the government down,” said Ted Dick, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party.  “Just last week, after claiming he’s for cutting spending, he voted for  a $300 million school voucher program for Washington D.C.  Congressman Rehberg has proven time and time again he has made a career of spinning Montanans to suit himself, and we’re calling him out on it.”
