Montana Democratic Party Response to Rehberg Transparency Rhetoric

Millionaire Congressman talks transparency, but won’t disclose schedule, earmark history

Helena, MT -- Congress will vote on a budget in the light of day this week, but that isn't stopping Congressman Dennis Rehberg from grandstanding about a lack of transparency in the budget process.

“If Congressman Rehberg is worried about transparency in government, he should disclose his schedule and every earmark he’s ever requested,” said Ted Dick, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “A lack of transparency has been the hallmark of Congressman Rehberg's political career. Now he's trying to trick Montanans into thinking he's for open government, but his record says otherwise.”

Over the course of his political career in Washington DC, Congressman Rehberg has made 186 known earmark requests worth $302 million. Congressman Rehberg has failed to disclose earmark requests that he made before 2008. [Legistorm]

Furthermore, Congressman Rehberg is failing to regularly post his schedule online, despite previous commitments to do so.
