You might have missed a great letter to the editor in the Missoulian titled ‘[Dennis] Rehberg: Congressman turning into Trump’.
The author points out that Congressman Rehberg didn’t give a straight answer to a question about the Department of Education at an event in Missoula earlier this month.
Here are a few more questions Congressman Rehberg has failed to answer:
Pell Grants
Congressman Rehberg also said Pell Grants have ‘become a problem like the welfare of the 90s at the City Club event. Congressman Rehberg has previously called Pell Grants the ‘welfare of the 21st Century’.
So which is it, Congressman – the 21st century, or the 90s? Either way, Congressman Rehberg is still calling Pell Grants ‘welfare’.
Planned Parenthood
At the event, Congressman Rehberg also said gutting funding for Planned Parenthood was fine, because ‘poor women’ can access Medicaid. However, only women who are pregnant or have children or other dependents can receive Medicaid coverage. So if Congressman Rehberg guts Planned Parenthood, many women won’t be able to access cancer screenings or prenatal care at all.
So, why, Congressman Rehberg, do you want to undo funding for Planned Parenthood?
Oil Subsidies
When it comes to end subsidies for big oil, Congressman Rehberg also told Montanans, “So, everything is on the table as far as I’m concerned; that would be, the subsidies for the oil companies would be one of them.” But he ended up voting against a bill in the House to end the giveaways for big oil anyway [Roll Call Vote #293, 5/5/11].
So, why Congressman Rehberg, did you end up voting against oil subsides?
For Montana’s millionaire Congressman, these are tough questions to answer. Fortunately, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director Ted Dick clarifies some of these issues in a recent op-ed in the Montana Standard.
