Steve Bannon Gets Behind Rosendale, But What About Mitch McConnell?
Helena –Marylander Matt Rosendale received the endorsement of the Great America Alliance PAC, an organization linked to former White House strategist Steve BannonWednesday, as Rosendale attempts to show any sort of strength in a lackluster GOP primary.
Bannon’s controversial “news” organization Breitbart recently cited Rosendale’s support of a border wall, openness to President Trump’s agenda, and his support of a straight repeal of the current health care law – which would lead to more expensive premiums for Montanans, and more people uninsured – as part of the reason behind Bannon’s support of Rosendale.
But it’s not quite that simple.
On Sunday, Bloomberg News reported that Bannon has two conditions for supporting candidates for U.S. Senate, one of them being that they will vote against Mitch McConnell as majority leader. Axios reported Wednesday morning that opposing McConnell has become "a de facto litmus test in Bannon's recruitment,” and the Hill also confirmedBannon is “asking the candidates he backs to oppose Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as the next majority leader.”
That’s all fine, except just a couple of months ago, Politico reported that Rosendale would support McConnell. “A spokesperson for Rosendale said the Republican leader’s status ‘is not in question,’” Politico reported.
Sounds like there’s going to be some awkward conversations for Rosendale. Will he turn his back on McConnell and headed full throttle into a cozy Bannon bromance?
