Republicans' attack on women's health care must stop
HELENA -- Republican bills in the Montana Legislature attacking a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions have gone from terrible to horrific lately.
Not only does Republican State Sen. Al Olszewski’s SB 282 -- which passed the House on second reading Wednesday -- limit a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, but changes added recently upped the ante by criminalizing doctors who help women make these decisions and continues its destructive path of violating a woman’s right to privacy.
SB 282, coupled with Republican Rep. Derek Skees ‘personhood’ bill are an affront to women across the state and their ability to receive quality health care and make their own decisions.
“Republicans don’t like political interference in personal decisions -- except when it comes to women’s health,” said Nancy Keenan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “This political interference is an all-out attack on a woman’s right to make her own decisions. Republicans know that personal health care matters should be kept between a woman and her doctor, her family and her faith.”
