Paid for by DeVos: Daines' vote against Montana students, teachers
$70K contribution to Daines campaign buys his support
HELENA -- Casting the last vote, Sen. Steve Daines today defied the wishes of thousands of Montanans in exchange for campaign cash when he voted for Betsy DeVos to become the next U.S. Secretary of Education.
DeVos has been criticized by Montanans for her support of privatizing public education and lack of understanding of critical federal programs such as special education funding. Yet, Sen. Daines stood with her as their businesses filled his campaign coffers with more than $70,000.
“Senator Steve Daines just sold out Montana teachers and public school students for $70,000 in campaign cash,” said Nancy Keenan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Our public schools are the heartbeat of our Montana communities, large and small, and they deserve our full support. Today Daines sided with big out-of-state donors over the thousands of Montanans who have been flooding his office with calls and emails.”
