“Add the Montana public education system to the list of things that New Jersey multimillionaire Greg Gianforte can’t be trusted with,” said Jason Pitt, a spokesperson for the Montana Democratic Party. “Gianforte’s out-of-touch and dangerous plans for public education are a direct threat to our Montana values.”

Gianforte’s public education agenda is a threat to educators, students, and public schools:

  • Gianforte’s Petra Academy, of which he serves as chairman, called public schools “a failed experiment” in their newsletter.
  • In April, educators criticized Gianforte’s 406 Tax Plan, which would take away $33 million from local schools to give tax breaks that benefit the wealthy and out-of-state corporations.
  • In a radio interview with KMMS, Gianforte called public schools “a monopoly,” further claiming that they do not produce the best product.
