Montana Republicans make way for federal land transfers
Republicans table resolution to protect public lands
HELENA -- Republican Senators in the Montana Legislature took one step further toward allowing the transfer or sale of our public lands by tabling a resolution on Wednesday that would block such reckless measures.
Sen. Diane Sands, D-Missoula, introduced Senate Joint Resolution 17 in front of the Senate Natural Resources Committee.
“Debate over Senate Joint Resolution 17 opposing federal land transfer and sales brought a familiar narrative, generating support from conservation groups, and some farming and timber interests ...” -- Helena IR 2/22/17
The resolution failed along party lines with five Democrats voting to support it and seven Republicans voting against it.
