Montana Democrats' Statement on Removal of Confederate Fountain

Today, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director Nancy Keenan released the following statement regarding the Helena City Commission's decision to remove the Confederate fountain from Hill Park:

"I applaud the Helena City Commission's decision to remove the Confederate fountain from Hill Park. This monument, which was commissioned by a group supportive of the Ku Klux Klan, is a disgusting symbol of division and racial prejudice. It does not represent who we are or the values of our community.

"There is simply no place for bigotry, racism, or hatred in Montana or anywhere in our great nation. And while we have come a long way, there is still progress to be made. From Helena to Charlottesville, we must come together and continue working to form a more perfect union that fulfills the promise of liberty and justice for all."
