Longtime Democratic legislator from Anaconda dies

The Montana Standard reports that our friend, longtime legislator Bea McCarthy of Anaconda has died.

McCarthy was an elementary teacher in Anaconda and served in the House and Senate of the Montana Legislature and served on several committees, including natural resources, fish and game, as well as education and local government.

Nancy Keenan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party who was born and raised in Anaconda, said she'll miss the longtime civic leader.

"Wife, mother, teacher and civic leader, Bea was an inspiration to me and countless others," Keenan said. "I am proud to have known her since I was a child, work with her as a colleague and counted on her as a friend.  If her Husband Eddy was the King of Anaconda, Bea was certainly the Queen.  She will be missed."

Services for Bea will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Anaconda. Read the Montana Standard for more on the story of Bea’s life and service to this state.
