ICYMI: White nationalist, part-time Whitefish resident considering House seat
The Huffington Post is reporting that Richard Spencer, leader of the white nationalist National Policy Institute and part-time Whitefish resident is taking the idea of running on the Republican ticket for Montana’s U.S. House seat in a special election “very seriously.”
“It’s an exciting prospect,” Spencer said to the Huffington Post.
Video from a Nov. 19 conference Spencer lead shows him saying:: “Hail Trump! Hail our people! Hail victory!” followed by supporters standing and giving the same straight-armed salute used by Nazis.
Residents in Whitefish recently held a rally against Spencer, saying they don’t support his rhetoric.
“To be clear, Richard Spencer’s views are not Montanans’ views,” said Nancy Keenan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “We’ve called on the Montana GOP to denounce this kind of racism in their party this year and we will continue to hold Republicans accountable for this fear-mongering behavior as we move toward a special election to fill this U.S. House seat.”
Letter the Montana Democrats sent to the Montana GOP Chairman Jeff Essmann on Oct. 27.
