- Hinted that he would be open to transferring public lands to the state in the future.
- Donated thousands of dollars to groups including Americans for Prosperity and the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) that want to transfer federal lands to the state and undo Montana's stream access laws.
"Greg Gianforte thinks that Montana's mountains, fields and waterways should be closed off for out-of-state billionaires to spend their vacations," said Nancy Keenan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. "Our public lands are for all of us and we need to keep Greg Gianforte out of Congress to ensure that our kids and grandkids can enjoy the same public access that we do."
