House Republicans fail to pass important jobs bill -- again
HELENA -- On 4/06 day, House Republicans had the opportunity once again to create countless jobs for the folks who chose to live in the 406 area code. But once again, they failed.
“Republicans once again chose politics over people by voting down a job-creating infrastructure bill," said Nancy Keenan, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. "As Republicans continue to ignore the need for a comprehensive infrastructure bill, Democrats remain committed to building Montana and strengthening our economy.”
House Bill 645 didn't get the required two-thirds vote needed to pass on Thursday, failing 58-42. The bill provided funding for capital and infrastructure projects statewide, including upgrades to our flagship campuses in the state.
“The time is now to pass infrastructure and create good-paying jobs across our state,” Keenan said. “Montanans expect and deserve more from irresponsible Republicans that chose to play politics with such an important job-creating bill.”
In 2015, a bipartisan infrastructure package passed the Senate 47-3. But on the last day of the Legislature, a few irresponsible Republicans in the House put politics ahead of hardworking Montanans and killed infrastructure by a single vote.
