GOP hatchet job on state budget will hurt Montanans
HELENA -- The Montana Republican Party’s proposal to cut more money from the state’s budget is completely unnecessary and reckless.
Gov. Steve Bullock and his administration have worked carefully to craft a balanced budget for the next biennium that already includes $74 million in well-thought, difficult cuts while also maintaining a healthy fund balance. The Republican plan to deepen those cuts to $120 million won’t do anything but harm to the people of Montana.
“Apparently the Montana Republican Party doesn’t care about our families, our jobs and taking care of our communities,” said Kristen Cates, spokesperson for the Montana Democratic Party. “Making these kind of cuts will hurt our students, health care services and our overall economy. These reckless cuts do nothing to move this state forward.”
