Gianforte's Anti-Public Access Agenda Deepens With Donation to PERC

Following news that New Jersey multimillionaire Greg Gianforte sued the people of Montana to block public stream access on his property, recently disclosed 2014 Foundation giving shows Gianforte also donated to the anti-public access group the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC).

"First lawsuits, now donations, Greg Gianforte is Montana's biggest public access enemy," said Jason Pitt, a spokesperson for the Montana Democratic Party. "Not only does Gianforte sue the people of Montana to block public stream access, he also gives money to groups that want to remove Montana's constitutional right to access our public streams."

Gianforte gave the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC), $1,000 as recently as 2014 and touts the organization on his foundation's website.

In 2012, PERC filed an amicus brief against a sportsmen group and Madison County over access to Ruby River, near Sheridan, from a bridge on the property of billionaire James Cox Kennedy.

In 2014, PERC attacked Montana's Supreme Court decision to uphold public stream access.

Gianforte has also donated tens of thousands of dollars to Foundation for Research on the Economy and the Environment (FREE), Americans for Prosperity and the Heritage Foundation that have fought to privatize national forests and sell off our public lands to the highest bidder.
