Washington Insider Steve Daines Collects Hundreds of Thousands of Outside Dollars
Shutdown Steve Takes Money from Washington Special Interests, New York Billionaires
(Helena, MT) – As Congressman Steve Daines formally files his campaign for U.S. Senate, new report takes a look at the alarming amount of money from out-of-state PACs.
Who is behind the money?
While Congressman Daines has pledged to support tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas, corporate special interests have poured more than $700,000 into his campaign through political action committees.
These have included:
- Koch Industries Inc. PAC (DC) – $10,000
- Raytheon PAC (VA) - $10,000
- Altria Group Inc. PAC (DC) - $7,500
- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. PAC (DC) - $5,000
- JPMorgan Chase & Co PAC (IL) - $5000
- Nextera Energy PAC (FL) - $5,000
But Daines’ influx of out-of-state money doesn’t stop there. Daines is also the benefactor of Friends of American Majority, which has collected nearly $193,000 for Daines’ campaign.
Quick fact: $193,000 accounts for 8% of Daines’ total fundraising.
The Virginia-based Friends of American Majority is led by New York billionaire Paul Singer and is bankrolled by hedge fund managers with close ties to Singer.
“Steve Daines is becoming the Copper King Congressman as New York billionaires and out-of-state special interests are buying this election. Montanans want a Senator who will fight for Montana and has the courage to stand up to special interest lobbyists,” said Andrea Marcoccio, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party.
