Rehberg Party Bosses Tout Latest Plan to End Medicare
Congressman Dennis Rehberg's party bosses today unveiled another plan to give massive tax breaks to the super-rich and corporations that ship jobs overseas, while cutting billions from Medicare.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) doubled down on his notorious plan to attack Medicare. This time the plan includes massive tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.
"Sadly, this is just the latest sign that Congressman Rehberg's party bosses in Washington are just as out-of-touch as he is,” said Ted Dick, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “After 11 years in Washington, Congressman Rehberg thinks it makes sense to give tax breaks to his fellow millionaires while attacking Medicare. That kind of a plan might serve Congressman Rehberg well, but it’s far from the responsible plan Montana families deserve.”
Here’s more on the latest Rehberg-Republican plan to pay for tax breaks for millionaires by gutting Medicare:
Cuts Taxes for the Rich by 10% -- The current top tax rate is 35%, but according to the Washington Post, this plan would cut that rate down to 25%. And the plan "would also lower the top corporate income tax rate to 25 percent and virtually eliminate taxes on corporate profits brought back from overseas“ [Washington Post 3/20/12].
Ends Medicare as we Know it for Seniors – According to the Associated Press, "The GOP budget reprises a controversial approach to overhauling Medicare that would switch the program — for those under 55 today — from a traditional "fee for service" framework in which the government pays doctor and hospital bills to a voucherlike "premium support" approach in which the government subsidizes purchases of health insurance" [AP, 3/20/12].
