New Dishonesty Tracker Counts Congressman Daines’ Doublespeak

Daines distorts his record in Washington, will say anything to get elected

(Helena, MT) – As Congressman Steve Daines builds on his record of Washington doublespeak, Montanans have a new tool to keep track of the many times when Daines says one thing, but does another.

The Montana Democratic Party is launching a brand-new “dishonesty tracker”.

Daines Claim: He claims he is opposed to raising the debt ceiling.
Reality: Daines voted twice to raise the debt ceiling.

Daines Claim: He claims to care about the debt.
Reality: Daines demanded and voted for the shutdown that added at least $400 million to the national debt.

Daines Claim: He claims to support job creation policies.
Reality: Daines supports protecting tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas while raising taxes on middle class families by $2,000 a year.

Daines Claim: He claims to be a job creator.
Reality: Daines doesn’t mention that he set up factories in China while his company closed its US plants and fired 4,000 American workers.

Daines Claim: He claims he does not support outlawing birth control.
Reality: Daines sponsored a “personhood” bill that could effectively outlaw common forms of birth control.

Daines Claim: He claims to support vulnerable seniors and programs like Meals on Wheels.
Reality: Daines voted against a bill to restore Meals on Wheels funding. Daines also voted for the Ryan Budget, which would essentially eliminate the Meals on Wheels program by cutting grants that fund anti-hunger programs.

Daines Claim: He claims that he wants Montanans to be able to make their own healthcare decisions.
Reality: Daines has voted numerous times to dismantle a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, including support for a constitutional amendment outlawing abortion even in cases of rape or incest.

Daines Claim: He claims to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Reality: Daines voted against funding domestic violence and sexual assault prevention programs.

Daines Claim: He claims that he supports equal pay for women.
