Jim Messina, Sen. Al Franken to Headline Mansfield-Metcalf
Helena, Mont. -- The Montana Democratic Party today announced that Jim Messina and U.S. Sen. Al Franken will be the featured speakers at their Mansfield-Metcalf dinner. Former NARAL Pro-Choice America President Nancy Keenan and AFSCME president Lee Saunders will also address the attendees.
Jim Messina led President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign after completing his position as a Deputy Chief of Staff in the White House. He has a long history with the Democratic party in Montana, serving as Sen. Max Baucus' Chief of Staff from 2005 to 2008 and as his campaign manager in 2002.
Sen. Al Franken has represented Minnesota in the U.S. Senate since 2008. He is an award-winning satirist and author, and was previously the host of a nationally syndicated progressive talk radio show.
"Montana is proud to call Jim Messina and Nancy Keenan our own. They've inspired so many young people to realize that Montana is a great place to learn, work hard and make a difference for the better in their communities and in the world," said Senator Max Baucus. "The entire lineup of this year's Mansfield-Metcalf event will bring us all together in discussing Montana values and the kind of state we hope to hand off to our kids and grandkids."
An Anaconda native, Nancy Keenan recently finished her tenure as president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. She was Montana's Superintendent of Public Instruction between 1988 and 2000 before becoming a candidate for Montana's seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Lee Saunders is President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, an 1.6 million member union. In addition to his role at AFSCME, Saunders is also a Vice President of the AFL-CIO Executive Council.
"This event carries on a tradition that is greater than any of its attendees," said Governor Steve Bullock. "I'm looking forward seeing old friends, and gearing to work toward an even brighter future."
Montana Senators Max Baucus, Jon Tester and Governor Steve Bullock, will also address the attendees, along with a host of other Democratic statewide elected officials.
The event will be held on March 9 at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds at 5 PM. Tickets are available online at this link: https://secure.swift-cpa.com/mt/2013mmdinner/.
