Daines Continues Anti-Women Agenda Putting Corporations before Women’s Health
Montana Women launch “Women for Walsh” to Continue the Fight for Montana Women and Families
(Helena, MT) – While women across Montana rally behind Senator John Walsh, Congressman Steve Daines continues to put corporate special interests ahead of Montana women and families.
While Daines tries to court women voters, his track record on women’s issues is anything but supportive. Most recently, Daines applauded the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision that allows corporations to deny women coverage for birth control.
Daines has made repeated attempts to take away a women’s right to make her own healthcare decisions, outlaw common forms of birth control, eliminate prevention efforts and authorize the IRS to audit victims of rape. Daines also claims to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, but fails to mention that he voted against funding the same domestic violence and sexual assault prevention programs he touts.
“We know that when Montana women have access to healthcare, Montana families are stronger. Yet Congressman Daines continues to ignore the needs of Montana women and side with corporate executives and special interests,” said Andrea Marcoccio, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party.
In response to Congressman Daines and his disregard of women’s needs, Montana women launched “Women for Walsh” in order to elect Senator John Walsh and ensure the voices of Montana women are heard.
“John has always stood with Montana women. When the Supreme Court made their dangerous Hobby Lobby decision, John immediately sponsored the Not My Bosses Business Act to overturn the decision. We can trust him to fight for policies that help Montana women,” said Marissa Perry of Helena.
