ICYMI: Montana Health Care Experts Ask Daines to Oppose Senate Health Care Bill
Yesterday, a group of Montana health experts gathered for a panel hosted by the Montana Nurses Association to discuss the dangerous effects of the proposed Senate health care bill on Montana. Speakers from the Montana Hospital Association, the Benefis Health System, Planned Parenthood of Montana, and the Montana Medical Association all voiced opposition to the legislation, and asked Senator Steve Daines, who has been silent on the bill, to vote against it:
Vicky Byrd, Executive Director of the Montana Nurses Association: “This fight is to preserve our health care…Senator Tester has been very supportive of our same issues. I haven’t heard from Senator Daines.”
John Goodnow, CEO of Benefis Health System: “Tester’s not the issue…Tester is dead set against this…This is an issue for Montana with just Sen. Daines.”
Laura Terrill, Vice President of External Affairs at Planned Parenthood of Montana: "This bill is the worst bill in a generation for women's health…Senator Daines as recently as last week said he would be a no vote on repeal if the Planned Parenthood defund language was amended out. So he will only take care from 22 million people if Planned Parenthood is not able to serve Medicaid patients."
Dr. Todd Wampler, a Helena physician and member of the Montana Medical Association: “I would just ask Sen. Daines to think about the people of Montana and think less about politics and do the right thing for the people he represents.”
